Các vị trí bờ biển bị sạt
lở thuộc 3 vị trí trên tuyến đê đi qua địa bàn xã Khánh Bình Tây, huyện Trần
Văn Thời. Cùng với đó, tình trạng sạt lở bờ đê biển cũng diễn ra tại 3 vị trí
khác thuộc địa bàn xã Khánh Tiến, huyện U Minh, tỉnh Cà Mau.
Một số hình ảnh được ghi nhận trong đợt triều cường, sóng lớn làm sạt lở đê biển Tây hồi tháng 7 vừa qua.
Nước biển xâm thực trực tiếp vào

thép để kè chắn bờ biển. Tuy nhiên, đây chỉ là giải pháp tình thế, không thể
cứu được đê nếu tình trạng sóng to, gió lớn tiếp tục xảy ra.
Tháng 7 vừa qua, Chủ tịch UBND tỉnh Cà Mau quyết định công bố tình huống khẩn cấp về thiên tai đối với việc sạt lở đê biển Tây tỉnh Cà Mau.
Một số đoạn kè đê biển Tây bị sóng lớn làm xô lệch, hư hỏng.
Theo Sở Nông nghiệp và Phát triển Nông thôn tỉnh Cà Mau, những năm gần đây triều cường, sóng lớn tác động mạnh mẽ, dần "nuốt chửng" vành đai rừng phòng hộ ven đê biển Tây. Theo đó, nhiều đoạn đê không còn rừng chắn sóng, đối diện nguy cơ sạt lở cao.
"Rừng phòng hộ đang mất từng ngày. Khoảng 1 năm trước, đai rừng phía ngoài đê dày khoảng 20m, nhưng hiện nay chỉ còn một lớp rất mỏng, phía trong đê nhìn ra ngoài là thấy biển", ông Dũng - một người dân sống ven đê biển Tây cho biết
Cận cảnh một đoạn đê biển Tây thuộc địa bàn xã Khánh Bình Tây, huyện Trần Văn Thời mất hoàn toàn đai rừng phòng hộ. Khoảng 5 năm trước, đai rừng phòng hộ tại đây dày hàng chục mét.
Trong thời gian tới, ngành chức năng của tỉnh tiếp tục theo dõi tình hình, gia cố chân đê, kiến nghị Trung ương hỗ trợ thực hiện các phương án hộ đê trong mùa mưa sắp tới. Tình trạng nhiều đoạn đê mất đai rừng phòng hộ được Sở Nông nghiệp và Phát triển Nông thôn tỉnh Cà Mau đánh giá là có nguy cơ "vỡ đê" rất cao.
Ngoài những đoạn đê biển Tây mất đai rừng phòng hộ, vẫn còn nhiều đoạn vẫn giữ được đai rừng. Tuy nhiên diện tích, độ dày ngày càng thu hẹp vì triều cường, sóng lớn.
Đê biển Tây (đoạn qua tỉnh Cà Mau) có tổng chiều dài 55km, được nâng cấp hoàn thành giữa năm 2019, kinh phí thực hiện khoảng 1.600 tỷ đồng. Tuyến đê này bảo vệ vùng sản xuất cho hơn 26.000 hộ dân sống ven biển Cà Mau và hơn 90.000 ha đất sản xuất nông nghiệp của tỉnh.
