Đại lễ Phật đản là
dịp không chỉ để tôn vinh Đức Phật, mà còn là dịp để ôn lại cuộc đời của Đức
Phật Thích Ca Mâu Ni trên phương diện một con người lịch sử cùng những lời dạy
của Ngài.
Nhân dịp này, PV Thanh Niên có cuộc trò chuyện cùng thượng tọa Thích Trí Chơn, Phó trưởng ban Văn hóa Trung ương GHPGVN, Trưởng ban Văn hóa Phật giáo TP.HCM về nguồn gốc, ý nghĩa cũng như cách dâng hoa lễ Phật tại gia trong đại lễ Phật đản.

Thích Trí Chơn: Đại
lễ Phật đản hay là kỷ niệm ngày ra đời của Đức Phật Thích Ca Mâu Ni vào năm 623
trước Công nguyên. Năm 80 tuổi, Ngài viên tịch, được bắt đầu tính là năm Phật
lịch. Do đó, Phật lịch năm nay là 2567, còn đại lễ Phật đản 2647.
Khởi nguyên từ Ấn Độ, Đức Thích Ca Mâu Ni đem ánh sáng của
giác ngộ, đem đạo từ bi lan tỏa trên tất cả mọi nơi và quê hương Việt Nam được
đón nhận hạnh giác ngộ từ đầu Công nguyên đến hôm nay là ngót 2000 năm.
Những ngôi chùa, tiếng chuông, lời dạy của Đức Phật đã trở thành một bộ phận của văn hóa Việt Nam. Và như vậy, đại lễ Phật đản trở thành một lễ hội lớn của những người theo đạo Phật nói riêng và những người mến mộ đạo Phật cũng như cộng đồng.

Vì sao lễ Phật đản có nơi tổ chức ngày 8.4 âm lịch, nơi ngày
rằm tháng tư, thưa thượng tọa?
Thượng tọa Thích Trí Chơn: Phật
giáo Nam truyền gọi lễ Phật đản là đại lễ Vesak – tháng Vesak của Ấn Độ cũng
được gọi là lễ tam hợp (tháng Đức Phật ra đời, Đức Phật thành đạo, Đức Phật
nhập Niết bàn cùng trong tháng Vesak).
Trong khi đó, Phật giáo Bắc truyền cho rằng Đức Phật ra đời
vào tháng 4, Đức Phật nhập Niết bàn vào tháng 2 âm lịch và thành đạo vào tháng
chạp. Do vậy, người ta lấy ngày mùng 8.4 là ngày ra đời của Đức Phật Thích Ca
Mâu Ni.
Cũng có lý luận nói rằng, thời Đức Phật thì gọi là ngày trăng tròn chứ không có ngày giờ cụ thể, nhưng trăng tròn của quốc gia mỗi nơi khác nhau với sai số không đáng kể.

Truyền thống của Việt Nam kỷ niệm ngày ra đời của Đức Phật
Thích Ca là mùng 8.4 âm lịch. Năm 1950, Đại hội Liên hữu Phật giáo Thế giới họp
26 quốc gia (trong đó có Việt Nam) để thành lập Hội Liên hữu Phật giáo thế giới
và công nhận ngày trăng tròn tháng 4 là ngày Đức Phật ra đời. Từ đó, Phật giáo
Việt Nam lấy ngày trăng tròn tức là ngày rằm tháng 4 là ngày quyết định cho sự
kiện này.
Tuy nhiên để kết hợp với truyền thống và Phật giáo toàn cầu, Việt Nam đưa ra mùa Phật đản, không còn là một ngày nữa mà bắt đầu từ mùng 8.4 đến rằm tháng tư, đó là kỷ niệm ngày ra đời của Đức Thích Ca Mâu Ni.

Tháng 12.1999, Liên Hiệp Quốc đã công nhận đại lễ Vesak -
Phật đản là ngày lễ hội văn hóa thế giới. Đến nay, Việt Nam đã 3 lần đăng cai
tổ chức đại lễ Vesak Liên Hiệp Quốc vào năm 2008 tại Trung tâm Hội nghị quốc
gia Mỹ Đình (Hà Nội), năm 2014 tại chùa Bái Đính (Ninh Bình) và 2019 tại chùa
Tam Chúc (Hà Nam).
Đại lễ Phật đản là một trong những sự kiện lớn nhất của
người con Phật nói riêng cũng như những người có tình cảm với đạo Phật nói
chung. Lễ hội này, người con Phật thường tạo ra chuỗi sự kiện để dâng lên cúng
dường Đức Phật, vui mừng mình là người con của Đức Phật.
Thưa thượng tọa, ở các chùa thường trang trí, tổ chức chương
trình mừng đại lễ Phật đản thế nào?
Thượng tọa Thích Trí Chơn: Ở các chùa không thể thiếu trên ban thờ là một tay Đức Phật đản sinh 1 tay chỉ lên trời 1 tay chỉ xuống đất, đó gọi là kim tướng sơ sinh. Trong lễ có nghi thức tắm Phật, tất cả mọi người có mặt đều lấy gáo nước xối lên thân tướng của Đức Phật để tắm Phật.
Các chùa sẽ tổ chức lễ tắm Phật trong đại lễ Phật đản

Khi múc một gáo nước tắm lên hình tượng Đức Phật thì mình
quán tưởng rằng mình đang tắm chính mình để thâm tâm mình tắm sạch, qua đó,
Phật tâm, Phật tánh được biểu hiện.
Ở các chùa còn treo cờ Phật giáo, cờ tổ quốc, lồng đèn, làm
sự kiện, tổ chức chương trình văn nghệ, vui chơi tạo không khí vui cho chùa,
Phật tử và xóm làng xung quanh.
"Phục vụ lợi ích chúng sinh là thiết thực cúng dường
chư Phật" vì vậy người con Phật cúng dường Đức Phật bằng cách làm những
điều tốt đẹp cho người dân trong xã hội hay đến những bệnh viện giúp bệnh nhân
đang điều trị, đến thăm cụ già neo đơn, em bé mồ côi, người khó khăn, làm thiện
nguyện...

Thượng tọa Thích Trí Chơn: Trong
lễ nghi của đạo Phật, có 6 món để dâng lên cúng dường gồm hương, đèn, hoa, đồ,
quả và nhạc. Cụ thể:

Hương là nén hương đốt dâng lên cúng
dường Đức Phật; đây là biểu tượng, nói đến giới đức, tâm hương mỗi người.

Hoa nói đến sự thơm thảo, bên trong
đó là phẩm hạnh của con người.
·
Đèn nói đến ánh sáng, cũng được biểu
tượng cho trí tuệ ở mỗi con người.
·
Đồ là một từ cổ, chỉ lễ mình cúng
như xôi, chè, trà... - lễ phẩm thể hiện tâm thành kính.
·
Quả nói đến sự ngon ngọt, thơm thảo
trong trái tim mình.
·
Nhạc là những gì hay nhất, thiêng
liêng nhất: mõ, điệu đàn, chuông...
Nói cách khác, làm sao để tâm mình trong sạch, lời nói mình
chân thật có ái ngữ đem lại lợi ích và hành động của mình luôn luôn làm điều
tốt, đó chính là lễ phẩm cao quý nhất cúng dường Đức Phật trong sự kiện đản
sinh này.
