Với ý nghĩa "Chín rồng phun nước, bảy bước xưng tôn" và "Đức Thích Ca có 32 tướng tốt, 80 vẻ đẹp", Biên tập viên Nguyên Thảo đã phỏng vấn Thầy Viện chủ quan niệm của Đạo Phật về các con số có mang tính triết học trong cuộc sống và nhận định tính cách con người qua tướng mạo.

Về con số, Thầy Viện chủ cho rằng có mấy yếu tố:

- Con số tự nhiên: bảng thập phân, bảng cửu chương

- Con số triết học: số 3: Thiên - Địa - Nhân, con số 7: Không gian (đông, tây, nam, bắc) và thời gian (quá khứ, hiện tại, vị lai)

- Con số đạo lý: 9 chữ cù lao như: Sinh: đẻ ra, Cúc: nâng đỡ, Phủ: vỗ về, Súc: bú mớm, Dục: Giáo dưỡng, Phúc : ẵm bồng...

- Con số tôn giáo: Ba Ngôi báu: Phật - Pháp - Tăng, Ba ngôi Chúa: Chúa Cha, Chúa Con và Chúa Thánh Thần. Cúng Thất (7 ngày cho 7 lần) với người đã khuất.

- Con số huyền sử: Voi 9 ngà, gà 9 cựa, ngựa 9 hồng mao . . .

- Con số cảm tính: thích số đẹp (số xe, số điện thoại . . . )

- Con số ám ảnh: số 4 là xấu (vì rơi vào chữ "tử" (sinh, lão, bệnh, tử), số 13 (bữa ăn cuối cùng của Chúa Jesu có 13 người, hôm sau Chúa bị nạn)... Dù đứng ở góc độ nào thì con số vẫn là con số. Không vì những con số mà con người gặp may mắn hay bị xui rủi, thành công hay thất bại . . .

- Bên cạnh đó, phóng viên cũng hỏi về ngày giờ tốt xấu, và Thầy trả lời: ngày nào hạnh phúc, bình yên, vui vẻ đó là ngày tốt. Ngày nào phiền não, khổ đau, sân hận . . . là ngày xấu

Về nhân tướng học, Đạo Phật không bát việc này nhưng cũng không cổ suý, khuyến tin.

Nhìn phía đông trong mờ sáng thấy có vầng hồng biết mặt trời sắp mọc, nhìn mây vần vũ, dông sấm biết sắp có mưa, bác sĩ nhìn người biết khỏe hay bệnh. Cũng vậy, nhìn một người thông qua sắc tướng hay diện mạo để biết nhân cách cũng giống như là dự báo về người đó. Tuy nhiên tướng trạng biểu hiện thông qua tâm thức, không cố định. Đạo Phật có câu: "Tướng tự tâm sinh, tướng tùng tâm diệt", tướng tuỳ theo tâm mà biểu hiện, hay ẩn diệt.
